Smoking is the leading preventable cause of disease and disability in the US, resulting in over 480,000 deaths each year, including deaths from secondhand smoke (SHS). In LA County, smoking causes (1) in every (7) deaths, and approximately 4.3 billion dollars are lost due to smoking-related diseases and deaths each year. LA County Public Health Department hired Allegra to develop a smoke-free housing policy in the cities of Duarte and La Puente. The campaign’s end goal is to pass a smoke-free housing policy within the cities of Duarte and La Puente. Allegra’s outreach strategy, campaign, and progress consist of the following media and tactics;
- Communications Strategy and Outreach Plan
- Create a major collaboration with the City of Hope
- Team calendar to manage activities and deliverables
- Branded media designed to raise the awareness of tobacco control

- Social media design and development
- Press releases and blog articles to raise the awareness of tobacco control
- Designed Outreach Flyers and 83 PowerPoint Presentations
- Implemented 45 Community Meetings (Virtually)
- Attended 48 Community Events (in person and virtually)
- Facilitated 207 One-on-One Key Stakeholder Meetings
- Conducted 38 Educational Presentations
- Met with 14 Key Decision Makers (City Council Members and City Manager)
- Gathered 27 Letters of Support from top-level organizations and influencers
- Created partnerships with school districts, clubs, service organizations, and concerned constituents
- Drafted sample ordinance (in the process)
- Developing education, implementation, and outreach tactics to inform the community of the ordinance (in the process)
